Eligibility Criteria
South African citizens below the age of 30 are eligible to apply.
Applicants must demonstrate strong academic abilities and commitment to a teaching career.
Criminal records, misconduct, or dismissal from work disqualify applicants.
Current teachers with qualifications are not eligible for the bursary.
Qualifications Covered
Undergraduate Studies: 4-year Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.) specializing in Foundation Phase (Grades R – 3), Intermediate Phase (Grades 4 – 6), and Senior and Further Education and Training Teaching (Grade 7-12).
Graduate Studies: One-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for graduates with two priority subjects.

Visit the e-Gov portal at www.eservices.gov.za.
Register and log in to the system.
Select Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme and complete the application steps.
New applications close on 02/02/2024, while re-applications for existing bursars close on 30/11/2023.
What the Bursary Covers
Tuition fees, accommodation, meals, books, and learning materials.
Teaching practice laptops and a small monthly living allowance.
Bursary value varies based on university cost structures.
Repayment and Obligations
Recipients must teach in public schools for the same duration they received the bursary.
Non-compliance may require repayment, with interest charged by NSFAS.
