EPWP jobs

The social sector in South Africa is led by the Department of Social Development, in collaboration with other departments such as Community Safety, Education, and Health, as well as municipalities. The sector’s primary focus is on enhancing the quality of home-based care and early childhood development programs, which require a significant amount of dedication and resources.

The Extended Public Works Program (EPWP) is a government initiative aimed at creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. The conditions of employment for EPWP workers are outlined in the 2012 Ministerial Determination and include the following:

– Temporary or contract-based employment
– Normal work hours: Task-rated EPWP workers may not work more than 55 hours a week
– Rest periods: EPWP workers are entitled to a 12-hour daily rest period and must have two days off a week

– Leave: EPWP workers can accumulate 12 sick leave days in a year and are entitled to three days paid family responsibility leave each year
– Payment: Workers will only be paid at the end of each month for tasks completed
– Health and safety: Employers must ensure a healthy and safe working environment, and workers must use personal protective equipment and work safely

Additionally, EPWP workers are entitled to a Certificate of Service, which reflects any training received and work performed.

In the Western Cape, the EPWP program is aimed at creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in various sectors, including the technical trade industry.

The National Youth Service and Contractor Development Programme are two initiatives under the EPWP that target unemployed youth and contractors with a Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Grading of 1-5.
