Job Summary
The Department of Health is seeking qualified individuals to fill the role of Pharmacy Assistant (Post Basic) within its Sedibeng District Health facilities. This role involves working under the direct or indirect supervision of a pharmacist and encompasses a range of duties including the preparation, labeling, and distribution of pharmacy products. The successful candidates will be integral in ensuring compliance with good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures, while also participating in broader departmental strategies and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prescription and Order Management:
- Receive, read, and verify the legality, authenticity, and validity of prescriptions and orders.
- Prepare and affix labels on pharmacy products.
- Pack and distribute pharmacy products.
- Documentation and Stock Management:
- Complete and maintain accurate documentation.
- Monitor and report on excessive drug usage and any deviations from standard protocols.
- Order, receive, and issue stock, including bulk compounding and pre-packing of stock according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with the Gauteng turnover strategy, Primary Health Care (PHC) Reengineering, and establishment of the sub-district.
- Regulatory Compliance and System Management:
- Address pharmacovigilance and stock visibility issues.
- Assist with the Central Chronic Medicines Dispensing and Distribution (CCMDD) at facilities.
- Ensure a continuous supply of medications and manage relevant DSM aspects such as expiry dates and product names.
- Collect, organize, and analyze relevant information.
Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Grade 12 or equivalent qualification enabling registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
- Registration: Current registration with the SAPC as a Post Basic Assistant and proof of payment of current annual registration fees.
- Skills and Experience:
- Computer literacy.
- Basic knowledge of good manufacturing practices, standard operating procedures, and pharmaceutical processes (e.g., weighing, mixing).
- Previous experience as an intern or EPWP participant in Sedibeng District or with Gauteng Health is advantageous.
