About the Position
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is seeking dedicated and results-oriented individuals to join our Debt Management team as Compliance Debt Collectors.
In this role, you will be responsible for collecting outstanding debts and managing the debt portfolio assigned to you, contributing to the economic stability of South Africa.

Job Purpose
As a Compliance Debt Collector, your primary objective is to process outstanding debt and returns cases following standard operating procedures, with the aim of continuously improving service delivery.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Relevant Higher Certificate (NQF 5) and 2 years of Debt Collection experience OR
- Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 3 years of Debt Collection experience.
Job Outputs
In this role, your key responsibilities include:
- Communicating transactional outputs and addressing queries in accordance with policies and quality standards.
- Contributing to the development and enhancement of area-specific standards, procedures, and processes to improve service quality.
- Supporting the implementation of change initiatives within your area of work.
- Meeting contracted performance objectives and escalating unresolved delivery and quality issues to management.
- Utilizing your knowledge and experience to identify and develop solutions for improved service delivery and quality.
- Effectively planning and scheduling activities to enhance service quality.
- Reporting on transactional and process activities as per guidelines to aid in decision making.
- Identifying the origin of debt, verifying due dates, conducting taxpayer compliance checks, cross-referencing tax types, and executing debt recovery interventions within defined turnaround times.
- Maintaining taxpayer account files, including referrals to account maintenance, portfolio maintenance, tracing, legal actions, and more.
- Engaging with taxpayers regarding outstanding debt and returns.
- Issuing Final Demand letters when taxpayers are uncooperative.
- Initiating legal actions such as S46 requests for third-party information and notifying employers and banks.
- Preparing Civil Judgments and submitting them for approval and issuance.
- Preparing Warrants of Execution and facilitating their execution.
- Preparing Motivations for Notices of Personal Liability and taking collection action against responsible third parties.
- Preparing Submissions for Suspension of Obligation to Pay/Write-Off and capturing outcomes.
- Analyzing supporting documentation and presenting requests for payment deferrals or compromise settlements to the relevant Debt Committee.
