Toyota is currently seeking candidates for the position of Principal Engineer in the Engineering Product department.
This permanent role, located in Prospecton, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, falls under the Manufacturing job family.
The Principal Engineer will be part of the Plant Engineering & Planning Division and report to the SPAD Manager, contributing to the company’s objectives in the PEPD Division.

Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic planning, co-ordination, and Project Management, including collaboration with related divisions in TSAM for strategic studies.
- Implementation of strategies in line with agreed Nemawashi.
- Monitoring of costs and the introduction of cost reduction activities
- Incorporating innovative technologies to support future factory improvements.
- Facilitating decision-making at the executive level through strategic plans and initiatives.
- Problem-solving, root cause analysis, and countermeasure implementation using the TBP approach.
- Risk mitigation strategy and coordination.
- Strong cross-functional coordination.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum NQF 6 qualification (360 credits) in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering.
- At least 5 years of project management experience in the automotive sector.
- Proficiency in production systems, including ECI’s, SMS, and SMS-BR.
- Strong technical knowledge of component manufacturing (advantageous).
- High level of computer literacy, including Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and Catia.
- Experience in strategic project development and coordination.
- Administrative and project management skills.
- Effective communication at all organizational levels.
