About SARB: SARB plays a pivotal role in ensuring the economic well-being of South Africans. Responsible for maintaining price and financial stability, SARB regulates the South African financial sector, designs and distributes banknotes and coins, manages interest rates, and ensures the stability of the banking sector and wider financial system.
Programme Focus: This graduate programme focuses on data science, an interdisciplinary field that leverages scientific methods and algorithms to extract insights from structured and unstructured data. The core objective is to nurture advanced analytics capabilities specific to central banking.

Programme Structure: Selected graduates will work within the Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD) at SARB from February to December 2024. They will engage in technical training and collaborate on unique and complex business problems. The programme offers a specialized Data Science track.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess or be in the process of completing a postgraduate qualification in fields such as Data Science, Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Analytics Modelling, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics with Econometrics, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Mathematics and Informatics. Proficiency in coding with R and Python is essential.
Additional Requirements: Prospective candidates should be South African citizens with strong analytical skills, a proven academic track record (average mark of 65% and above), excellent communication skills, and a curiosity for innovation. Participation in data science competitions (e.g., Kaggle) or contributions to projects on GitHub/Gitlab is advantageous.
